Last night was a reminder that cats do experience trauma and need time to heal too. About 1:30am mom and I woke to sirens in our apartment complex. It was a fire truck, ems and police. They all stopped at a building a few buildings down from us. We had a perfect view because of our old building no longer standing. It was quite an eery sight seeing the fire truck, ambulance and police cars all in front of what used to be our building. I didn't like hearing the sirens. I kept meowing and running back and forth between the living room window and bedroom window. It would be an hour or so before I calmed down and finally joined mom back in bed. Mom didn't mind the meowing. I think she was worried about me more than annoyed by the meowing. :(
I am resting comfortably tonight. Today marks 8 months since the fire. I am doing well but would really prefer to not hear any more sirens, k?
Poor CJ. I don't like sirens either. I run to the window too. I like routine and don't like change. Pop lived through 9/11 and every time he hears a low flying plane, he cowers and I've taken to doing that also. Relax Little Guy and watch your Jayhawks.
ReplyDeleteCJ, that's very interesting about cats and trauma. We're sorry you got a little scared when you heard those sirens. We hope you don't hear any more ever.
ReplyDeleteCJ, I am not surprised that was such an upsetting experience for you! I bet it spooked your human a little bit too - although humans try to pretend it doesn't. They have that whole "rational" facade to keep up, you know! But I am glad you were there for each other. That is what's important.
ReplyDeleteWe can only imagine how scared you were, CJ, hearing those sirens. Thankfully it wasn't your building!
ReplyDeleteCJ, that must have been really scary for both you and your Mom. Some of the cats here react to things but they have never had anything as bad as you did. We love the picture of you just taking it easy. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteMaxwell: DOOD, any of us woudla done the same thing. We are so sorry you had to hear the bad sirens again. But we're so glad your mom was there to reassure you. And we just bet you reassured HER too!
ReplyDeleteWe are lucky to not hear sirens here. We wish you peace from them...
