Pet Insurance?

Pet Insurance? Is it worth the cost? Mom wants to know what it covers and if it's worth the cost of carrying to cover Mia and Mosby. She doesn't know if Mia will be covered since she has a pre-existing condition (FHV) but since Mosby is a young 4 year old kitty she thought she might considering getting coverage for him.

Mom's thought about it off and on since the fire.

2012 fire that took brofur Cosmo's life and left me burned

Pet insurance might have covered my big bill then as I recovered from the fire and maybe even could have helped last year when I was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism.

What do my pals think? Is Pet Insurance worth the cost? Mom wants to be able to help Mia and Mosby if an emergency arises but does the cost of the insurance outweigh the cost of emergency care?

Thanks pals!

Angel CJ

I'm Mr. December!

You may remember a while back that Artist BzTat did a portrait of me for mom. Well Artist BzTat has a calendar coming out soon for 2018 and I am going to be featured in it with some other great kittys! I will be featured in December. How cool is that! Mom thought it was really cool but especially that I will be Mr. December since it was December 2011 that she adopted me. She said it was the best Christmas present ever!

Here's a sneak peek of what the kitty calendar will look like. There is a woofy calendar too if you like woofys.

If you want to order a calendar whether it's a kitty or a woofy you can order by clicking and following this linky: 2018 Cat and Dog Fine Art Calendars.

Mom can't wait to receive her calendar and see all the portraits and quotes that artist BzTat will be including with each. What a special way to remember kitty's (or woofy's) that have provided so much love to their humans over the years but may no longer be here with their humans. Thank you Artist BzTat for creating such a treasure!

Happy Birthday Mia!

Happy Birthday to this pretty girl who is now 9! She's been part of the family for a few years now. Here are some of mom's favorite pics of Mia since adopting her from Wayside Waifs in November 2013. She's mellowed out even with Mosby kitty now in the home. Why couldn't she be a mellow kitty when I was there? Sheesh! At least Mosby chases her around now and then!

Mia kitty could use some purr-ayers though. She has Feline Ocular Herpesvirus (more commonly called FHV-1). Most of the time it doesn't bother her but she is currently having another flare up. Her right eye is red and looks downright terrible. (Mom didn't include a picture because it looks really bad and she'd rather share cute pics of Mia for her birthday!). Currently mom is putting antibiotic drops in Mia's eye which seems to be helping but Mia isn't exactly an easy kitty to medicate like I was. Once the antibiotic is done mom is hoping to provide Mia with a natural product that might help keep her immune system strong to hopefully reduce flare ups. Do any of my kitty friends have suggestions for mom? She wants Mia to live a healthy and happy life so any recommendations are welcome!

Thanks pals!

Purr-ayers for Texas

Thank you Ann Adamus for creating this thoughtful image!

Many people are wondering how we can help humans and animals caught in Hurricane/Tropical Storm Harvey. One thing mom wants to stress is please don't self deploy to Texas! As a disaster Services volunteer for the Red Cross mom knows first hand how overwhelming it can be to the community affected for spontaneous volunteers to just show up. Now there are exceptions of course. Many people and their fur babies needed assistance evacuating and that prompted people who had boats to drive to Houston (and surrounding areas) to help. Without these brave people bringing their boats to assist, the death toll would likely have been higher. If you don't have a boat or are not trained in Emergency Response please don't self deploy to Houston. The best thing you can do if you want to volunteer is to sign up through an agency such as the Red Cross or Salvation Army where you will be trained in how to best help people devastated by this storm.

Here are links to reputable organizations that you can either volunteer through or donate through:

American Red Cross - Emergency Disaster Services
The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization that provides emergency assistance and disaster relief in times of crisis, is seeking donations to help victims of Harvey. The organization is urging people to call 1-800-RED CROSS or text HARVEY to 90999 to make a $10 donation for those in need. You can also sign up to be a volunteer. Follow the link to learn more. Shelters are open, truck loads of supplies are being distributed and volunteers [are] in place,  Your donations help make this assistance possible.

Salvation Army - Emergency Disaster Services
Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services is the relief arm of the charitable organization, which is part of the universal Christian Church. The organization is taking donations to provide "physical, emotional and spiritual care to survivors and relief workers."

Catholic Charities USA, a Catholic social service organization, is seeking donations to help those who have been affected by Harvey. The group has set up a website devoted to Harvey relief, and explains that "long term recovery" is part of the group's approach to disasters like this one.

Austin Pets Alive! has been helping shelters in the direct line of Hurricane Harvey. We’ve been working with these shelters to transport as many pets as possible to APA! Austin Pets Alive! is an animal shelter and no-kill pet advocacy group seeking assistance to help with pets, has created a page on its website specific to Hurricane Harvey-related needs.

The HSUS’s Animal Rescue Team provides animal rescue in response to natural disasters. They have volunteers, equipment, and rescue vehicles currently working from Corpus Christi to Texas City to San Antonio. They rely on donations to fund their support.

The SPCA of Texas prepared to intake up to 300 animals affected by Hurricane Harvey in addition to deploying emergency response teams to areas affected. Anyone with the capacity to foster animals is desperately needed to free up space in animal shelter facilities to make more room for animals displaced by flooding.

These are just some of the many organizations providing assistance for those affected by #Harvey. Before you donate, be sure you are donating to a reputable agency so your money goes to help those in need. Unfortunately disasters bring out the criminals who just want to scam people out of $.

Fortunately disasters also bring out the best in people! If you want to volunteer here is another helpful website for organizations such as North Texas Food Bank and Volunteer Now. It's called MassCareTaskForce

In the meantime, let's keep the folks and animals of Texas in our thoughts and prayers!

Happy Birthday Mosby!

Hi pals, will you take a minute to wish Mosby Happy Birthday? He turns 4 today.

You may recall mom adopted him from Wayside Waifs, a KC area no kill shelter, shortly after I went to the Rainbow Bridge. Mia was having a hard time adjusting with me no longer around for her to chase. Mom volunteers at Wayside and well, she fell in love with this guy. He's so cute I can see why she fell in love with him. It's hard to see in the pic but Mosby is a polydactyl kitty. He actually has extra toes on all 4 paws which is a little unusual! Mom will try to post more pics of him so you can see his extra toes. She says he doesn't sit still much so it's hard to get a pic of his paws, especially his back paws which she says looks like they were put on backwards. What a strange thing for a kitty to have! Backward paws? Hmm... I hope mom can post some pics of those funny looking paws for my pals to see.

Happy Birthday Mosby! Keep chasing Mia. She likes it when you do that! he he....

Take care pals!

Angel CJ

Throwback Thursday

Today marks the 5th anniversary of the fire that took brofur Cosmo. Mom is taking this anniversary a little bit harder because it's the first one without me now too. Mom is looking through old photos and wanted to share some.

Hope all my pals are doing well!

Flashback Friday

This pic is from 2 winters ago (February 28, 2015). Mia and I enjoyed deck time even during the winter. I never liked the snow much. Mia on the other hand loves to bat her paw in the snow!

Mom says they are having a mild winter this year and haven't had much snow. I bet Mia wouldn't mind one more snow before the winter season is over?

Take care pals!
